Sharing Your Screen in a Small Meeting — Without Losing Sight of Everyone

Share your screen in a browser meeting and keep the group visible with a spotlight layout and a participant filmstrip — no install, no account.

In Haivix Huddle, sharing your screen does not hide the people you are talking to. When anyone shares, the shared screen takes the main stage and the other participants drop into a filmstrip along the bottom, so you keep reading faces and reactions while you present. Turn sharing off and the call returns to the full participant grid.

This guide covers how sharing works in a small meeting, what the spotlight layout does, and how to avoid the two problems that trip people up most: a blank "share" picker on mobile, and silent shared video.

Key takeaways

  • Anyone in the meeting can share, one person at a time.
  • The shared screen takes the stage; everyone else becomes a bottom filmstrip.
  • Participants with their camera off still appear as placeholder tiles, so no one disappears.
  • Screen sharing needs a desktop browser; mobile browsers can join but not present.
  • Shared tab or system audio is optional and must be chosen in the browser picker.

Share your screen in a meeting

Start or join a meeting first, then select Share screen in the dock. The browser opens its own picker, where you choose a whole screen, an application window, or a browser tab.

  • Select Share screen and pick the screen, window, or tab to present.
  • The shared content fills the stage; participants snap into a strip at the bottom.
  • Select Stop sharing to return to the standard grid of participants.
  • If someone is already presenting, the room asks you to wait rather than showing two screens at once.

The spotlight and the filmstrip

A single shared screen is easier to follow than a gallery of faces, but a full-screen takeover hides the room. Huddle splits the difference with two zones: a large stage for the shared screen and a compact filmstrip for participants. The strip persists while you share, so you can see who is nodding, who is muted, and who is speaking.

When no one is sharing, the stage shows a grid of participant tiles instead. Because camera-off participants render as titled placeholder tiles, the filmstrip and grid always reflect everyone in the room, not just the people on video.

Camera, fullscreen, and stats

Toggle Mic and Camera from the dock at any time, including while sharing. Select Fullscreen to give the stage the whole display when you are watching or presenting in detail.

The Stats panel reports the live connection quality plus the resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and codec. If a share looks soft or stutters, those numbers tell you whether the stream is thin or the network is struggling. Chat and emoji reactions stay available in the sidebar so people can comment without interrupting the presenter.

When sharing does not work

The most common cause of a missing Share screen button is the device: screen capture is a desktop feature, so mobile browsers cannot present. Use a laptop or desktop to share, and let phones join as viewers.

If the shared video is silent, the audio track was not captured. When the picker offers it, tick Share tab audio or Share system audio before you confirm; Firefox and macOS often cannot capture system audio at all. This is the same behavior described in the screen-sharing sound guide. When a connection simply will not establish, run the Screen Share Test to check the browser, device, and network.

Share a screen, or record one

Sharing is live and disappears when you stop; nothing is recorded. If you need a file you can keep or send later, use Screen Recorder instead. For a one-way broadcast to a larger audience, Watch Together is built for many viewers watching a single shared screen.
