What Color Converter helps you do
Convert a color between HEX and RGB so you can move a brand value between a stylesheet and a design tool. Paste either format and read the other, which saves re-entering channels or guessing the hex code by eye. Three-digit shorthand such as #F80 is expanded to its six-digit form.
Color math runs locally in your browser. Haivix does not log or transmit the values you enter.
How it works
These converters apply a fixed factor or formula to the value you enter, inside the page. They do not fetch live rates, measurement standards or device data, so the result depends only on the number and the units you choose. Values are formatted to a handful of decimals, with scientific notation for very small or very large results. Where a formula needs a second input, such as voltage, hours or a power factor, the page asks for it rather than assuming a value. The factor itself comes from the unit definition, so it is the same today as it will be next year; only the input changes.
How to use Color Converter
- Paste a hex color such as #1F2937, or open the picker and choose a color.
- Read the matching representation in the other format.
- Check the channel values against the original swatch.
- Copy the value into your CSS, canvas code or design app.
When to use it
- Turn a design tool RGB swatch into a hex code for CSS or Tailwind config.
- Convert a hex color from a brand guide into channel values for a canvas chart.
- Double-check that two color values are actually the same before shipping a theme.
- Read a hex value from a screenshot in the channel form an API expects.
- Prepare a color value for a chart library that takes separate channels.
- Verify a shade after a designer supplies only the hex code.
When not to use it
- Do not use it for HSL, HSV or CMYK; those need a different converter.
- Do not use it for alpha transparency; only six-digit RGB hex is handled.
- Do not treat a hex code as a color-managed value for print.
Example
Hex #FF8800 is rgb(255, 136, 0). Hex #FFFFFF is rgb(255, 255, 255) and #000000 is rgb(0, 0, 0). The shorthand #F80 expands to #FF8800. Hex #2563EB is rgb(37, 99, 235). Each pair of hex digits maps to one channel from 0 to 255.
What you can do with Color Converter
- Convert a hex color to RGB channels.
- Convert RGB channels to a hex value.
- Expand three-digit hex shorthand.
- Pick a color with the native color input.
- Show the hex value in uppercase.
- Run the color math locally with no upload.
Example: check the unit before trusting the number
Confirm the source unit and the target unit before reading the result. A correct number in the wrong unit is the most common conversion mistake, especially between US and imperial measures.
Sanity-check the magnitude with a rough mental estimate. If kilometres should be larger than miles and the result is smaller, the direction is reversed.
Round the result for the destination. A calculator can show six decimals, but an invoice, label or form usually needs two or three, and the rounding rule may be specified.
Keep the original value and unit in your notes. If the destination rejects the result, the source is the only way to recompute without guessing what was entered.
Check whether the unit has regional variants. Gallons, pints, tons and acres all have more than one definition, and picking the wrong one can shift the result by several percent without any arithmetic error.
If the answer will drive a purchase, a dose or a safety decision, verify it against a second source or the manufacturer's own table. A calculator removes arithmetic mistakes, not definition mistakes.
What to know before you start
- Only HEX and RGB are covered here; HSL, HSV and CMYK conversions live in the dedicated color tools.
- Hex shorthand such as #F80 is expanded to #FF8800, which is a visually identical color.
- Alpha transparency and eight-digit hex are not supported.
- The conversion is numeric and does not apply color profiles.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out the hash when a tool requires it.
- Assuming three-digit shorthand means a different color.
- Expecting alpha to be preserved; eight-digit hex is not handled.
- Mixing up the channel order, which is red, green, blue.
Troubleshooting
If the field shows an error, the hex value contains a non-hex character or the wrong length.
If the channels look swapped, remember the order is red, green, blue.
If a value looks darker than expected, check for a missing digit.
If the picker and the text field disagree, the last edit wins.
