What PDF Extract Pages helps you do
Pull specific pages or ranges into a new PDF while leaving the original untouched. Unlike splitting every page, this lets you assemble exactly the subset you need in one file. The range field accepts entries such as 1-3, 5, 8, and the output contains those pages in ascending order.
Extraction happens entirely in your browser. Your document is not uploaded.
How it works
A PDF stores positioned drawing instructions rather than flowing paragraphs, which is why editing one is different from editing a document. Page content, fonts, images and annotations are separate objects, and a page only carries a text layer if the producer wrote one. Most tools here rebuild or render the file in your browser with pdf-lib and pdf.js; the formats that need a full office engine, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF/A and HTML, use the Haivix service and say so in their privacy note. Every tool writes a new file and leaves the original untouched. Because content is placed by coordinates, extraction often returns text runs in visual order rather than sentences, and columns or tables can arrive interleaved.
How to use PDF Extract Pages
- Load the PDF and enter the pages or ranges to keep, such as 1, 3-5.
- Extract the selection into a new document.
- Check the reported page count.
- Download the extracted PDF.
When to use it
- Create a single PDF containing only the chapters you need.
- Share a few specific pages without the rest of a long file.
- Assemble a handout from non-adjacent pages.
- Pull the signature page out of a contract.
- Extract an appendix for a separate review.
- Build a short sample from a long catalog.
- Pull a single reference page to attach to an email.
When not to use it
- Do not rely on the typed order; the output is sorted ascending.
- Do not use it to reorder pages; use the organizer instead.
- Do not expect bookmarks or links to be fully preserved.
Example
Entering the range 3-5 extracts those three pages into a new document in the same order. Typing 5, 1-2 produces pages 1, 2 and 5, not 5 first, because the selection is sorted. A page number beyond the document is ignored rather than rejected.
What you can do with PDF Extract Pages
- Accept a comma-separated list of pages and ranges.
- Copy the selected pages into a new PDF.
- Skip numbers outside the document.
- Remove duplicates automatically.
- Emit pages in ascending order.
- Run the extraction entirely in the browser.
Example: work on a copy and check the output
Keep the original file. These tools produce a download rather than editing in place, so a failed operation never damages the source.
Check whether the PDF has a real text layer before relying on extraction. A scan is an image, so text tools return little or nothing until OCR has run.
Unlock encrypted files first. A password-protected PDF cannot be reordered, cropped or annotated until it has been opened with the correct password.
Review the output before sending it on. Fonts can substitute, overlays do not always remove what is underneath, and page boxes can shift content near the edges.
Note the page size and orientation before laying anything out. A mixed document can contain portrait and landscape pages, and a tool that assumes one size may crop or offset the others.
Keep a note of the operation and its settings. If a recipient questions the result, reproducing it from the original is faster than guessing which options were used.
What to know before you start
- The extraction copies pages as they are, including any bookmarks or links only partially.
- Ranges must reference existing pages; out-of-range values are ignored or flagged.
- Output order is ascending regardless of the order typed, and duplicates are dropped.
- It does not merge pages from separate documents.
Common mistakes
- Expecting the typed order to be preserved.
- Including a page number that does not exist and wondering why the count is short.
- Using a hyphen with spaces around it and breaking the range.
- Assuming a single page can be extracted twice; duplicates are removed.
Troubleshooting
If the extract button reports an invalid range, the field may be empty or malformed.
If fewer pages arrive than requested, some numbers were out of range.
If the order is unexpected, remember the output is sorted ascending.
If the PDF will not load, unlock it first.
