Quote Text

Add or remove quotes around the whole string, each line, or each word.

What Quote Text helps you do

Add or remove quotes around the whole string, each line or each word. It is the utility for wrapping values in quotation marks for a code list, CSV field or JSON-like output. Quoting is literal, so quotes already inside the text are not escaped.

Quoting happens locally in your browser and is not uploaded to Haivix.

How it works

These tools transform characters rather than meaning. Some map letters to other Unicode glyphs, some insert combining marks, and some encode bytes into a text-safe representation. The result is still text, so it can be copied into a document or chat, but the visual effect depends on the font and platform that renders it. Nothing is uploaded, and some transformations are not reversible; keep the original when that matters. The output is a snapshot of the pasted text, so changing the source afterwards does not update it.

How to use Quote Text

  1. Paste the text you want to quote.
  2. Choose the quote character and the scope: whole string, each line or each word.
  3. Apply and check the first and last entries.
  4. Copy the quoted result.

When to use it

  • Wrap each item of a list in quotes for a code array.
  • Add quotes around values destined for a CSV field.
  • Remove existing wrapping quotes from copied data.
  • Prepare strings for a JSON-like fixture.
  • Quote each word for a keyword list.
  • Strip quotes from a column pasted out of a spreadsheet.

When not to use it

  • Do not use it to build valid JSON; separators and structure are missing.
  • Do not use it on text that contains the quote character unescaped.
  • Do not expect it to quote only the values that need it.

Example

Quoting each line of a three-line list with double quotes produces three quoted items. In remove mode, a value that already starts and ends with the chosen quote loses one pair, while an unquoted value is left alone. A quote inside the text is not escaped, so the result may be ambiguous.

What you can do with Quote Text

  • Add quotes around the whole text, each line or each word.
  • Choose the quote character.
  • Remove matching wrapping quotes.
  • Keep the original line and word order.
  • Copy the quoted or unquoted result.
  • Run the transformation locally with no upload.

Example: preview the transformation before sharing

Paste a short sample and inspect the result in the place it will be used. A fancy style that looks right in one app can show as boxes or plain letters in another.

Check whether the transformation is reversible. Escapes, Morse and binary can be decoded; styled letters and Zalgo usually cannot be restored perfectly.

Copy the result and keep the original if the text will be edited later or read by a screen reader. Styled characters are separate code points, so a search for the plain word will not find them.

If the text is for accessibility, prefer plain characters. A screen reader may read styled letters one by one or skip the combining marks entirely.

If the output will go into a field with a character limit, count the characters before and after. Styled letters often use more code points than the plain form, so a caption that fit before may no longer fit.

For a reversible encoding, test the round trip on a short sample. Encode, decode, and compare; if the result differs, the tool is not the right one for that data.

Keep the plain source in a note next to the styled version. When the effect stops rendering or a reader cannot parse it, the plain text is the only accessible fallback.

What to know before you start

  • Quoting is literal and does not escape quotes already inside the text.
  • It does not build valid JSON by itself, since separators and structure are not added.
  • Remove mode strips only one matching pair at the edges.
  • There is no option to quote only non-empty lines.

Common mistakes

  • Quoting every line and then joining with commas without removing the extra quotes.
  • Using a quote character that already appears in the text.
  • Expecting JSON escaping from this tool.
  • Removing quotes that were part of the original value.

Troubleshooting

If the quotes are not removed, check that the value starts and ends with the same character.

If an inner quote breaks the result, escape it before quoting.

If every word is quoted, the target is set to words rather than lines.

If the whole text is wrapped once, the target is set to all.

Related standards and documentation

  • Styled letters are separate Unicode code points, not formatting; search and spell-check may not recognize them.
  • Combining marks attach to the preceding character and can affect cursor movement and accessibility.
  • Base64, binary and escapes are encodings, not encryption.
  • Character counts can change after a transformation because Unicode code points differ from visible glyphs.
Text, not formatting
  • Preview in the destination app.
  • Some styles are one-way.
  • Keep the original for editing.
  • Prefer plain text for accessibility.
